Picture this: you’re walking into a high-end hotel and you marvel at the modern luxe interior as you settle down in the lounge. It might be elegant, but it still exudes comfort and cosiness. Now imagine this setting, but in your own home or office space.
That’s precisely what you’ll feel when you enter this modern luxe space by A Blue Cube Design (ABCD). Minimalism may be an easy interior choice to pick for the home, but don’t discard the possibilities of a maximalist interior design. In fact, it might be even more difficult to perfectly design a maximalist space without the elements overwhelming each other, but ABCD has pulled it off yet again.
As you’re walking in, note the bold chevron flooring that visually leads you inside and towards the ABCD signage. “The idea was to create a visual flow to the sign, and then up towards the “sky”, like a bird flying high and far into the distance,” said the designer. “The foyer’s floor pattern also diverts visitors towards the corridor, to signify that they would be led deeper into the space.”
Speaking of the signage, there was a particularly amusing story that accompanied it. “The entrance ceiling had a marble feature, and it gave the craftsmen a bit of a heart attack when they found out,” said the designer. “A slab of marble typically requires five to eight strong men to carry, and to have such a large marble feature on the ceiling posed quite a bit of a challenge. Then came the detailing process, which nearly drove them crazy to follow through with!”
The aim for this space was to feel like you’re within a hotel lounge with the right ambience, scent, and atmosphere. At the same time, the common area should also feel cosy and comfortable. When attempting a maximalist style, there should always be a common feature to tie all the decor together. In this case, you’ll find decorative accessories in the shapes of animals in pairs — a subtle nod towards Noah’s Ark.
As for the modern luxe part, there is the use of different natural materials including marble and wood. Bold colours accentuate the space, from the contrasting black-and-white chevron accent flooring to a deep colour scheme for textiles. Furniture pieces and accessories are fitted with luxurious materials, from velvet to metallic accents.
Another feature of this space worth noting is the large window by the lounge area, letting in natural sunlight and casting bold shadows at certain hours of the day. But perhaps the star of this entire space goes to the full marble island table with curved edges. No expense is spared, and the accordion detail on the curved edges of the island is exquisite. The modern luxe design extends into the bathroom, with mood lighting and marble of varying shades adding to its overall elegance.
Despite the many intricate details that go into designing and decorating this space, the end result has a surprisingly relaxing effect. “A capitalistic society has driven many of us to become work machines — this space should be an escape that feels comfortable and relaxing to return to.”
