Inspired By A Design Showroom, This Home Still Retains Its Own Distinguishable Luxe Manhattan Personality
When this homeowner stepped into the ABCD office to discuss their new home, little did they know that they would be looking right at it. Indeed, they loved the award-winning ABCD showroom so much that they wanted to replicate it for their own home—with a few minor adjustments.
Natural stone materials were another element that the owner wanted to incorporate into their home. Step into the house, and you’re already greeted by an onyx feature wall in the foyer. This feature piece is stunning and emits an entirely different look when it lights up. According to the designer, the translucent parts of the onyx were the owner’s favourite part and almost looked like a silhouette of the “Karate kid” when lit up.
Similar luxurious natural stone materials can be seen throughout the house, particularly in the living area. Another marble accent wall is behind the sofa—making it the perfect photo area for group pictures. You can also see the natural stone feature on the dining table top, elevating the dining experience.
As a firm feng shui believer, most designs had been curated to fit the owner’s feng shui affinity. “We followed the fortune directions and had dedicated positions in the home for each family member,” said the designer. Every room in the house has its function and purpose of serving the best interests of everyone living there. But that didn’t mean a bit of fun wasn’t allowed.
At its core, the house had a luxe Manhattan theme. However, the homeowner wanted their children to love the place too. That’s where their choice mattered when it came to their rooms. “We painted the kids’ rooms in their favourite colours,” explained the designer. “Multiple display shelves also allowed them to have their favourite Lego pieces on display too.”
The house’s design also shows the importance of family to the owner. The home office may be a place of work for the patriarch of the house, yet it has an inviting reading corner that welcomes the children to hang out and read any time of the day. Privacy is another prominent aspect of the home’s design. “The hidden doors in the master bedroom and walkway are one of my favourite parts of the house’s design,” said the designer. “It makes the living area space for entertaining. When the hidden doors slide close, individual rooms and spaces are made personal, giving their inhabitants their privacy.
While the home took direct inspiration from the ABCD showroom space, it still has a different personality from the source. The homeowner loved the overall result—every area of the house was as distinctive as they intended for it to be. “We used many special materials to make the home as unique as possible,” said the designer. “That’s why you won’t see these elements often in any other home here. Besides the marble and onyx, we sourced the bed headboard cushion material in the master bedroom from Italy.” Other furniture pieces in the house were also imported from Europe, heightening the luxurious Manhattan vibe in the place.
Despite the time it took to put everything together, the result was stunning and elevated—a true designer home.
